Land & Territory Acknowledgement

We begin by honouring the law of hospitality that first welcomed newcomers to Turtle Island. At Fireweed, we commit to telling the truth about colonization and about the impacts of settlement, including our own.

We live and work on the unceded lands of the Coast Salish peoples — the SĆIȺNEW (Beecher Bay), Málexeł (Malahat), Lək̓wəŋən (Songhees), Xʷsepsəm (Esquimalt), and T’Sou-ke Nations. We honour their care for these lands and waters since time immemorial and support the ongoing Te’mexw Treaty negotiations, working toward futures built on right relations.

We also recognize the generosity of the Earth, who sustains all life. At Fireweed, we try to walk in harmony with this gift, learning from the agreements between the Land and Indigenous peoples, and seeking ways to repair and restore where harm has been done.
